Recreation

Fort Payne offers many recreational activities - both natural and outdoors, and indoors. DeSoto State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve offer many outdoor activities like hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, kayaking/canoeing and much more.

The city Parks & Recreations Department has several city parks for everything from picnics to an old-fashioned game of horseshoes. City Park is the most popular, however we have many parks in town that feature playgrounds, relaxing shady groves, basketball courts, tennis courts, and on occasions horseshoe games. Wills Valley Recreation Center is a state-of-the-art facility offering basketball, racquetball, indoor walking track and a very large weight room. There are different membership options.

The Fort Payne Sports Complex offers plenty of baseball and softball fields to accommodate all area youth participating in little league programs. There are also soccer fields for similar programs in addition is a skateboarding park.

There is a walking park just across the tracks from the historic Depot Museum that is well-maintained by the city Parks & Recreation department as well as the newest project the new pavilion that is next to the Alabama Walking Park.
