About Fort Payne

Fort Payne is a town filled with history, culture and southern charm. With a population around 15,000, it is the perfect town that offers the cozy benefits of small town living. It is complimented, however, with great features of a growing area.

It's convenient location on Interstate 59 makes it accessible to the entire southeast: 90 minutes from Birmingham, AL, 45 minutes from Chattanooga, TN, and 2 hours from Atlanta, GA. Fort Payne has its own airport that can accommodate small planes as well as jet's (5,000 ft runway). Norfolk Southern rail lines run directly through the heart of the city. In addition to the interstate, historic US HWY 11 runs through downtown (temporarily merges with AL HWY 35).

Fort Payne is best known for its contributions to the world of country music and hosiery. The country supergroup ALABAMA hails from Fort Payne (be sure to check out their museum and fan club!), and its not uncommon to run into one of the guy's at a local restaurant.

Fort Payne has an annual music and culture festival, Boom Days, that celebrates the history, culture and talent of our community. It is held every fall, usually in mid-to-late September.

Fort Payne has a great school system. There is also an impressive parks & recreation department that offers something for everyone, not just kids. http://www.fortpayne.org/fortpayne/parks/index.asp
