Jeff Cook Parkway Written by Carol Beddingfield 6/17/2010
I now live on the Jeff
Cook Parkway.Highway 89, (Scenic Road)
has been renamed to honor Jeff Cook, a member of the country music group
sensation, Alabama.
Senator Lowell Barron presented the legislative resolutions
at the Songwriters Showcase.Randy Owen,
Teddy Gentry, and Jeff Cook will all have portions of roads in the area in
which they grew up and now live named for them.
Mayor Jordan
thanked the group for showcasing the natural beauty of our hometown to the
world.Alabama certainly portrayed our area in
their music.
Tourists visit the Chamber office seeking information. The statues of the members and now the roads
will certainly be points of interest.
Many charitable organizations and schools have benefited
from the band’s generosity.Facilities
such as the senior center and the Kelly Owen Women’s Pavilion provide services
for many.
Many of these projects were developed from the funds raised
from the June Jams. I still have vivid memories of staffing the Lost and Found
Booth for all sixteen Jams. The countless volunteers insured the events were
safe and fun for everyone.
The financial impact that Alabama continues to have on our area cannot
be measured. On behalf of the Chamber
members, a big thank you is extended to all our visitors during Fan
Appreciation Celebration.
It was great to use the expression, “We be jammin!”
again.Thank you Alabama for giving us the words to describe
our feelings for our Southern home.
