Music plays such a vital role in our overall well
being. We have been calmed by lullabies
or energized by rock and roll.
Many in our area have been blessed with musical
talents.Others like me simply enjoy all
forms of music.
What do blues, country, gospel, rhythm & blues, folk and
rock ‘n’ roll have in common? All of
these musical styles were created from our ancestors’ cultural traditions.
The combining of these musical forms, resulted in a musical
heritage that is as unique and defined as our nation’s history.
The Smithsonian Exhibition, “New Harmonies: Celebrating
American Roots Music,” provides a hands on overview of the evolution of music
in America.
This exhibition will be in FortPayne
beginning August 28th through September 19th at Hunt
Hall.
The Chamber congratulates the Big Wills Arts Council and
Director Russell Gulley for the tremendous effort to bring the Smithsonian
Exhibition to our area.Only six sites
in Alabama
were chosen.
If you would like to be a volunteer with the exhibition,
contact Russell at 845-2224.
The importance of this event can not be over
emphasized.The educational benefits to
all ages cannot be measured.
The economic impact through tourism dollars will be most
beneficial to our local business community.
Now is the time to get ready. We must all work together to ensure the
success of this project.The exhibition
will provide the opportunity to showcase FortPayne,
its beauty, lifestyle, citizens, and heritage.
