The Chamber is proud to announce that Vulcan Materials Company has won the BCA Small Manufacturer of the Year Award for 2009.

Because of the community involvement of the nation’s largest construction aggregates business, the Chamber nominated them for this prestigious award.

The company is second-to-none in the industry with respect to safety, health, environmental stewardship and community relations.

Each of Vulcan’s divisions has implemented programs designed to monitor conditions at company facilities, assure compliance with relevant laws and regulation, and develop practices and procedures for the protection of environmental resources.

Vulcan also continues to lead the stone industry in plant beautification.

Wildlife habitats have been developed at many of its quarries.  There are 40 certified habitats established and maintained by Vulcan.

Vulcan inventories wildlife species on corporate lands and then provides habitat enhancements for those species. This program is sponsored and sanctioned by the Wildlife Habitat Council.

Vulcan’s charitable contributions through the Vulcan Materials Company Foundation are focused on support of education, environmental stewardship, encouraging employee involvement in those activities.

Vulcan and its employees are working to meet the challenges of corporate responsibility.

Representatives of the business community from all sectors across our state were present at the awards luncheon.  The finalists in all three categories were introduced by Governor Riley.

The Chamber congratulates Inspec Tech of Valley Head for being a finalist in the small manufacturer category.  We are very proud of  Mark Freeman and his employees.
