The Chamber is proud to announce that Vulcan Materials
Company has won the BCA Small Manufacturer of the Year Award for 2009.
Because of the community involvement of the nation’s largest
construction aggregates business, the Chamber nominated them for this
prestigious award.
The company is second-to-none in the industry with respect
to safety, health, environmental stewardship and community relations.
Each of Vulcan’s divisions has implemented programs designed
to monitor conditions at company facilities, assure compliance with relevant
laws and regulation, and develop practices and procedures for the protection of
environmental resources.
Vulcan also continues to lead the stone industry in plant
beautification.
Wildlife habitats have been developed at many of its
quarries.There are 40 certified
habitats established and maintained by Vulcan.
Vulcan inventories wildlife species on corporate lands and
then provides habitat enhancements for those species. This program is sponsored
and sanctioned by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
Vulcan’s charitable contributions through the Vulcan
Materials Company Foundation are focused on support of education, environmental
stewardship, encouraging employee involvement in those activities.
Vulcan and its employees are working to meet the challenges
of corporate responsibility.
Representatives of the business community from all sectors
across our state were present at the awards luncheon.The finalists in all three categories were
introduced by Governor Riley.
