Ready to Work

There are few things in life that you never get over.  My pastor told me once that if you live long enough you will experience tough times.

However, change can create improvements in life’s journey.  The key to these stressful times is a positive attitude.

Many who are losing their jobs due to lay-offs think that their world will never improve.  Some have spent their entire work career at the same job.

There is a solution in staying employed in today’s job market.  You must have training and education to increase your employment skills.

Basic computer skills are needed to even apply for most jobs.  Job postings and company applications are completed on line.

The Chamber Board of Directors recognized the fact that many of the employees who are losing their jobs will not have the skills needed to compete for employment.

After researching the potential for our area, we were able to bring the Ready to Work Program sponsored by Northeast Alabama Community College to the campus of Fort Payne High School.

A viable component of this program is the basic computer instruction.  You can update your skills and learn new skills in manufacturing, problem solving, and job search.

You can get training and certification to prepare you for the next job.  This certification is recognized by many employers across our state.

You can attend these classes while still employed.

The FREE classes will begin March 23rd at Fort Payne High School.  To enroll, call the Chamber office at 845-2741.

The 2009 Krazy Kudzu Follies will be held on March 5,6,& 7th at the DeKalb Theatre.  Performances will begin at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are available at the Chamber office from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  Price is $15.00 per ticket.

During the month of February on each Wednesday, the tickets will be sold at a reduced price of 2 for $20.00.  The Chamber wishes to thank all of our supporters during these economic times with this offer.

Many new faces will be seen on stage this year.  Of course we could not have the Follies without our “pros” also.

Look for your favorites in such hits as Wizard of Oz, I Feel Pretty, Not Dead Yet, and I Am Still a Guy.  Scott Akins, Brian Baine, Tricia Clinton, and Stephanie Fritz are the creative minds this year.

The hilarious commercials will be a part of each performance.  We have 2 commercial slots left.  Call the Chamber at 845-2741 for more information.
