Boom Days Heritage Celebration

9/12/2012

Every job is a self portrait of the person who did it. Boom Days Heritage Celebration is the end result of a dedicated group of people who take pride not only in the role as volunteer but also in their community.

Collins Kirby, coordinator, has used his talents in the music and art world to create an event that is first class. The juried art show in City Park is one of the best in the state according to the Alabama Arts Council.

The lineup of musicians is unbelievable. In fact, one act, Rock Candy Band, has ties to Fort Payne. The beautiful sister of Daryl Sartain is a featured singer for the group.

The juried art show in City Park cannot be missed. Children’s activities will also be in City Park.

The Opera House block will have more activities this year. A quilt exhibit will be in the Coal and Iron Building. Cal Bred will be displaying his beautiful glass art.

The largest number of street vendors will be selling their products along Gault Avenue and Fifth Street. Downtown merchants will be offering discounts.

One of the highlights of the festival is the production of Lydia Randolph’s Boom Days poster. Her work this year features the Coal and Iron Building. Copies will be for sale during the festival.

The SPCA Pet Pawrade will start in the Depot Museum Parking lot at 10 AM.

Would you like to win $250.00? Check with the four stations located throughout the festival on how to win.

I want to say thank you to everyone who gave so unselfishly of their time and efforts to make this Boom Days Heritage Celebration the best one yet.

Now, it is up to YOU. Come downtown Fort Payne on Saturday, September 15th from 10 AM to 6 PM. I promise you there will be something for everyone!
