Fort Payne Garden Tours
5/30/2012
Do you ever wonder what the name of that flower or shrub growing in someone’s yard would be? The history behind the plantings can be just as interesting.
You will be given a chance to view the gardens of several of Fort Payne’s homes on Saturday, June 2ndfrom 1 – 5 PM. The Fort Payne Garden Club will present the 2012 Garden Tour.
A donation of $5.00 is requested. Tickets may be purchased at any of the homes. The guest registry will be located at the home of Bill and Emma Jordan, 408 Crystal Lake Drive, NE.
Other homes include Sheila Stevens, 206 8th Street; NW, Charles Shipp, 1612 Wooten Gap Road, NW; Mrs. Rex Keeling, 6202 Greenhill Blvd., NW; and David Beddingfield, 1026 Scenic Road, E.
Walking shoes will be a must. The tour is self-guided so you can start at any of the homes at your convenience during the hours of the tour.
Proceeds from the event go to civic beautification projects and horticulture scholarships to Auburn University. Over $300,000 is raised by garden clubs across Alabama to provide six scholarships per year.
I want to thank the members of the Fort Payne Garden Club for their efforts in creating the DeKalb Theatre Gardens. It is also an honor for the Chamber to partner with the Garden Club in presenting the Business and Residential Beautification awards.
I hope you noticed that my house is also included in the tour. I give David all the credit! He has worked so hard to insure the continued growth of the landscaping. He won our battle over the dry creek bed. Today, I am really glad because it is the focal point of the yard.
Call Donna Wells, President, at 256-276-8414 for more information about the tour. She will also answer any questions about the Fort Payne Garden Club. We both encourage area graduates to apply for the scholarships.
