If you have “self-checked”at Wal-Mart, you have a greater appreciation for the importance of the bar code on items. This international system of tracking has made life easier not only for the customer but also for the business and supplier of goods.

A local industry, Inspec Tech, Inc., began as an integrator of barcode data collection products. To scan correctly, a barcode must be within industry specifications or as the process is called “inspec”.

The company was named from this term, meaning that it has to be right every time.

Inspec-Tech, Inc. has matured with the markets through the years. Today they are primarily a high tech label and tag manufacturer. The plant occupies a 25,000 square foot facility in the Valley Head Industrial park.

Labels are produced using flexo label, digital label, or rfid label technologies. In addition to the conventional labels, Inspec-Tech, Inc. has become an industry leader in the area of RFID (radio frequency identification) labeling systems.

This system is used by large companies as well as the Department of Defense. The RFID tags on products allow the agency to efficiently track and distribute shipments headed to soldiers overseas.

Since 1996, Inspec-Tech, Inc. has grown 100.8%. Recent certifications have made this company one of few label manufacturers available to companies supplying products to Wal-Mart, Target and other large retailers.

In recognition of the growth and quality of products, Inspec-Tech, Inc. was recognized by INC. as one of the 5000 fastest growing companies in America. Only 67 companies from Alabama received this recognition.

Mark Freeman, owner, credits the success of Inspec-Tech, Inc. to our 23 employees’ hard work, diligence and dedication to satisfying the customer. The Chamber congratulates Inspec-Tech, Inc. for being named the 2004 Alabama Manufacturer of the Year and as a finalist in this year’s competition.
